JMSN – Something (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

My favourite song from JMSN’s seriously dope debut †Priscilla† gets the visual treatment.

This video is kinda fucked up but hit the jump for the video explanation from JMSN himself:

The Weeknd – The Knowing (Video 720p HD DOWNLOAD)

If you haven’t seen this yet, you’ve literally been living in a cave and you should punish yourself for missing out on this.

This video is weird as hell, I didn’t know what the hell was going on the first time I watched it but the second time through it makes more sense (HINT: actually listen to the lyrics while listening), but its still weird as hell.

UPDATE: Video Interpretation via theweekndovoxo:

This might be the weirdest video I’ve ever seen and I’m not ashamed to say that I didn’t understand it at first. What I do know is that this is the first official video from Mr. Tesfaye and I find it interesting that he picked a song from his first project to record a visual for. As soon as the clip came on, it reminded me of Cee Lo’s video for “Bodies,” which makes sense considering Mikael Colombu did them both

This is most decent and accurate explanations for the video for those (like me) who still can’t fully understand it, it’s a little long but gives a real insight on the meaning behind Colombu’s visuals.

There is a multitude of images to talk about and I won’t get to all of them (or even close).

- The intro displays earth and the opening up of a ‘rock’ system to display a hidden machine that isn’t initially visible.  This is a hint at a story within a story (deeper meanings).
- Abel is standing, watching a screen, with a mask, while be shadowed by a ether-ly female behind him.  Female and male bonds are important to the story.  The Scrabble letters spell the words napalm love to foreshadow the violence and passion of the plot in the oncoming scenes.  The mask is removed as the story begins to be told.

- On the screen is the Emperor of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa capital city) in 1974, his name is Haile Selassie.  The leader of the Derg (Marxist party) staged a revolution and overthrew the imperial government, starting a civil war that would not end until 1991. His name is Mengistu Mariam (he is holding a gun).  This civil war was very violent and affected many innocent.  Guerrilla tactics were employed by both sides (torture, executions, imprisonment…).  This war was followed by famines and the military government continued to create terror, often using poverty and hunger against its own people.  Eventually by 1991 the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front overthrew the corrupt government with US aid.

- This is where the music video gets interesting.. A female seeks to repossess the dead emperor Haile Selassie, and Abel is suddenly whisked away from his standing place beside a cross and a coffin.  This implies that Abel is Haile Selassie, which is only further enforced by the end of the video due to transitions of Abel flashing into Haile.

- The intro ends with a hand holding a foreign device (will get to that later), a picture of a man similar looking to abel that is standing next to a military man (but clearly not due to age) and picture of a fiery man (possibly the reaper) that flashes through different pictures of Haile.
- A heart is in the spelling of The Knowing alluding to the relationship (and failure of that relationship to come).

- Planet ‘Ethio’, is a shortened word for Ethiopia.

- The year is 16311 Anno Domini which 14300 years in the future.  Abel is opposite an opposing (strong willed female).  The video becomes very sexual, with images and silhouettes of barely/not clothed women.

- There is a distinct separation of men and women to represent opposing beliefs.  The men have clouded distorted eyes, or vision, which implies that there power does not agree with woman.  The men, particularly a horned man with an owl on his shoulder (shout out OVOXO sweater team) is clearly in power and above in status of woman.  The camera zooms out from a female ass, showing that females are treated as possibly sex slaves and unimportant to decisions.  This is further enforced by light beams travelling from the man to the woman’s vagina and face.

- Abel is watching this happen before (his hands open up around the end of the scene) his clouded vision returns.

- Abel, from a throne, orders the killing of three women, whom he mercilessly sentences, then sheds a tear, revealing his split ideals/emotions, one women. In the background a shadow or rape is seen.  A lion appears. A symbol for a king.

- One can notice that the men have collars on their necks (hinting at being controlled by something that is not there self.

- A female figure (the strong willed woman from the start) leaves abel’s side.  He then addresses a group of people ( i believe males) who are in support of his actions against woman.

- The main lady sees the blood and mistreatment, has her own thoughts of anger and displays her power by separating Plant Ethio into two. Ethio X (female chromosome) and Y (male). Meanwhile Weeknd is singing “break my heart”

- The separation of man and woman is complete as Abel ironically sings “I know everything.” because it is clear that if he did, such calamity would not occur.

- The Y planet has structures failing and falling, which could be because of the lack of females.

- Meanwhile the females grow strong and advance as a group.  They have space ships!

- The weird device from the intro appears. It seems to be a device to measure/contain a heart and its intentions.

- The woman head back to Y and start enacting revenge by killing the men and by removing Abel’s heart into the device.  The leader of the woman is the original woman who appears to be Abel’s former lover.

- Abel still lives.  He removes a necklace saying “Haile” which i believe is an ethiopian word for leader.

-  The former lover attempts to destroy Abels heart but finds it impossible to break.  She than drops it to a lion (which might symbolize Abel as he was a leader).  She finds that her heart is in pain as well and begins to lose it.  Abel returns to replace his heart, catch her before her demise, and then drop her.

NOW THE CONDENSED VERSION.

The Weeknd is a psycho on lots of drugs.. He makes a video to display the passion and violence of multi-decade civil war in Ethiopa and displays himself as the usurped leader of ethiopa.  Instead of a military coup, he overthrown by woman, who disagree with his (clouded) opinion of woman and overthrow him.  The new government of woman (or military government) is not effective however and the planets continue to fall apart due to the split opinions and multiple perspectives.  The video ends with the demise of the military government.

The video also shows The Weeknd’s relationship with women.  He does’t treat them with respect and he has many woman even thought his heart belongs to one.  He loses her due to his actions and she steals his heart.  She attempts to break it but cannot.  Upon realizing this, she understands that she still loves the Weeknd and loses her heart.  Her world crumbles as The Weeknd returns and replaces his own heart, ready to start anew. The song refrain ends with “I know everything” and “It’s okay.”

the end. Hopefully if anyone felt like reading these comments they understand the video, the song, abel’s relationships, the ethiopian civil war, and my love for music and art.  Thanks

Weird, but the best video of the year.

Quan – Gotta Let Me Go (Video)

What happened to this guy? Seriously he’s amazing its such a shame Nas didn’t support him enough in the beginning of his career.

Don’t worry though Quan will be releasing a new mixtape called “The Struggle” tomorrow, so I get the hook up here.

JMSN – Alone (Video)

That boy JMSN is back at it again with his second single from his upcoming 11 track project released via his own record label “White Room Records”.

Now this dude is something really fresh. As a writer/producer/singer, he is a REAL genuine talent, the sound his coming with right now is something different and atmospheric, akin to that of The Weeknd, and boy can JMSN sing. The video itself presents itself is a piece of art, its something so meaningful and deep that unlike most clichéd music videos of today. His music goes hand in hand with visuals, which itself is something.

Man I’m predicting big things for JMSN in the future because this shit right here is not just dope, but super dope. I’m so glad and honored to have been specifically asked for my opinion regarding his music and I’m really very excited for the music coming to us soon. So all I can ask is that you spread the word of JMSN in this age of mediocrity and humdrum. JMSN IS the FUTURE.

JMSN – Hotel

Another entry into my XO diary is this new dude called JMSN (pronounced Jameson).

This video, in my opinion is absolutely genius and the song is fantastic too. I love the sparse and understated production during the verses.  This is a song a lot of people can relate too and I’m really digging the whole pathos concept in the song, he gives a real sense of desperation vocally. I’m definitely digging this sound!

He has a new video coming soon directed by the person I’m assuming shot Tyler’s Yonkers video as Tyler himself had directed Yonkers. But JMSN is definitely on my radar, he shows real potential as he wrote and produced this joint too.

The Jealous Guys – Genesis (Video)

If you are a fan of The Weeknd you’ll most probably like this as its produced by one of his now estranged producers

Here’s a new cut from The Jealous Guys, with Jeremy “Zodiac” Rose on production. The story behind Rose’s recent past is an interesting one. Apparently he produced a few tracks on The Weeknd’s House Of Balloons (“What You Need,” “The Party,” and “Loft Music”), but due to personal conflicts with Abel Tesfaye, he was given no credit for his work.

At that time, the guys were operating under the name “The Weekend,” but as we all know, Abel went solo, dropped the third “e,” and is currently enjoying a great deal of attention.

But back to this Jealous Guys song. This is off an upcoming EP called Audio Book, produced entirely by Rose. Each of the four songs on the EP will be accompanied by a video, and a full length album is scheduled for November.
